“When I learned how to move well, my body felt good. When I was connected to my body and my movement, my body felt good. When I ignored it, my body was telling me to stop.”
Movement has been tied to punishment, control, and calorie burn for so many of us, and I’ve been there too. In this conversation, I’m sitting down with Coach Tyler Bramlett to challenge everything we’ve been taught about exercise and what it’s “supposed” to look like. We talk about how movement got so disconnected from how we actually feel and why so many of us either push ourselves too hard or struggle to stay consistent at all.
I share a bit of my own story, from overdoing cardio and tying movement to food, to learning (the hard way) that my body needed something different. What shifted for me wasn’t more discipline. It was getting curious about what my body actually needed and focusing on how I wanted to feel. That shift changed not just my workouts, but my relationship with my body and food, too.
Coach Tyler brings such a powerful perspective from his own journey in the fitness industry. He used to create the kinds of programs rooted in weight loss and self-criticism, but over time, he completely changed his approach. Now, his work at WeShape is centered on helping people reconnect with movement in a way that feels supportive, sustainable, and rooted in self-care, not shame. This conversation is going to help you start seeing movement in a whole new way!
What You’ll Learn:
- How movement can actually support your body, improve how you feel, and help heal your relationship with food
- How years of “no pain, no gain” and diet culture messaging keep us disconnected from what our bodies truly need
- Why so many feel stuck in the cycle of exercise as punishment or failing to follow through, and what to do instead
- The difference between intrinsic motivation and guilt-based pressure in movement
- How a mindset shift toward self-worth can foster consistency and joy in exercise
- Simple ways to practice connecting with and respecting your body, starting right now
At the end of the day, movement doesn’t have to be something you force yourself to do. My hope is that this episode helps you start shifting toward movement that supports you, feels better, and actually fits your life.
