Episode 265: How to Build Positive Body Image in a World Obsessed with Thinness with Kenzie Brenna

“I had a fallacy that I was chasing, and it was that once I got thin, I’d be thin forever, and therefore happy… and I’d get everything I wanted.”

When body image feels harder than ever in today’s culture, it can be easy to believe your body is the problem. On top of this, it’s no secret that celebrities’ and influencers’ bodies are shrinking rapidly and even if you vehemently disagree with it, like I do, this cultural moment we are in can still impact your body image and the way you feel about yourself.

Today’s episode is a conversation back by popular demand with Kenzie Brenna, a motivational speaker and body image influencer. Kenzie shares her own journey with weight loss and body image, and explains why body image healing isn’t about reaching a place where you love your body every day. It’s about building resilience so that difficult body image moments no longer define your life.

When I re-listened to this episode from more than three years ago, I knew it was a message that we all need to hear again. It’s a conversation that is so relevant for this cultural “thin is in” moment. Kenzie’s story is full of ideas on how you can positively navigate those inevitable harder body image days, and ultimately get to the place where more positive body image days outweigh the hard ones.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Why positive body image doesn’t mean loving your body every day, and what real healing actually looks like
  • How dieting can damage your relationship with food, your body, and your sense of self, even when it seems “healthy”
  • Practical ways to navigate difficult body image days, including curating your social media feed and building a supportive community
  • How to cope with the fear of weight gain and stop letting your body size determine your worth or hold you back from living your life
  • Mindset shifts that can help you become more resilient to diet culture, body criticism, and unrealistic beauty standards

If you’ve been struggling with body image lately, this episode is your reminder that healing is not linear, and it doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful. You are valuable and worthy just as you are.
